In 2021, we’ll be sharing a monthly chronological Bible reading plan that will help us grow and understand how the Bible fits together. We wanted to go ahead and provide the January reading plan so you can print it out and have it ready for the first day of the month!
Earlier this year, when we were talking about our Know His Word reading plan for 2021, we realized a lot of you have asked for a chronological Bible reading plan. After all, who doesn’t love a good story? The Bible’s sixty-six books weave together an amazing, cohesive story, a grand Story that God has written for the world, and you and I are part of that story! And the best thing about this story? It’s all true! In 2021 we hope you will join us as we read, and celebrate the script that God continues to write in and through our lives.
We’re adapting our reading plan this year from the CSB Day-by-Day Chronological Bible which features daily readings guided by Dr. George H. Guthrie. You don’t have to purchase this Bible to participate—we just wanted you to know where we’ll be pulling our reading plan from in 2021.
Dr. Guthrie offers these tips to help you get the most out of the experience:
- Read at a specific time and place each day. Do so until it becomes a habit.
- Always keep the Big Story in view and shape how you think about God’s Word.
- Don’t get bogged down in the passages you don’t understand; some aspects of the story become much clearer as the story develops.
- Read in community with others. (Hey, we’re glad you’re here!)
- Pick up tools to help you read the Bible better. The CSB Day-by-Day Chronological Bible is part of a broader emphasis on biblical literacy called Read the Bible for Life. You can find various tools, some of them free, to help you grow in the skill of Bible reading here.
If you love reading about understanding the Bible as one complete story and want to dive into deeper study, we recommend Seamless by Angie Smith. This study covers the people, places, and promises of the Bible, tying them together into the greater story of Scripture.
Our prayer for you this year is that, as you read God’s grand Story with us during the coming year, you will see that you are a part of this story. We pray that once you are drawn in, your life will never be the same.
