This month we’re reading about calling. More than that, we’re reading about being obedient to the call.
Often when we think of calling, we think of people being called to the mission field or pastors being called to a church or a calling to teach, adopt, move, lead. We think of big things. And God calls us to big things. We see that in the Bible. He called Noah to build an ark, Moses to lead His people, David to be king, Jonah to prophesy, Paul to share the gospel with the nations, Timothy to shepherd a church. And on and on.
God calls us to big things. And God calls us to small things. Really, God calls us to obedience. We are to go and make disciples—and that may look very different for each of us in each season of our lives.
This month, we’re reading about some of the perhaps lesser-known aspects of calling. As we obey God, sometimes it looks like going, but sometimes it looks like waiting. In this season of uncertainty, many of us may be waiting quite a bit more than we expected.
We hope that these passages encourage you; they show us what it looks like to obey (some may have learned that the hard way). As we live out His call on our lives, we can know, in the words of 1 Thessalonians 5:24: “He who calls you is faithful; he will do it.” Won’t He?
