In 2020, we’re providing a monthly reading plan centered around our blog theme for 2020: Life Connections. We wanted to go ahead and provide the June reading plan for those of you that like to print it out and have it ready for the first day of the month!
We’ve had a difficult last few months, to say the least. Last year, we sat down to discuss and plot out the reading plan for the entire year. We didn’t know what we’d be experiencing right now when these days came up on the calendar. We had no way of knowing the pain and suffering we’d experience as a world. The grief over loss of plans, of jobs, of life itself.
We planned to read about pain and suffering in the Bible. It may be a weird thing to construct a reading plan around, but the truth is that our world experiences pain and suffering. We experience it on a global level and on a scraped-knee level. When sin entered the world in Genesis 3, so did brokenness. Our world is broken because of sin.
The Bible doesn’t shy away from the brokenness in our world. Instead, we hear about pain as a direct consequence of sin and pain as an indirect consequence of the sin in our world. We read about suffering of all kinds in the pages of God’s Word. Loss of plans, of prosperity, of life itself.
But we also read about hope. We read of a God who is with us in the pain and the suffering. We read of a God who, in the end, wipes every tear from our eyes and makes everything new.
This month, as we read these stories of heartbreak, also remember the hope. You may ask yourself with each reading, “What do I know about God that makes even this story remind me of the hope I have in Him?”
