As this season of Advent draws to a close on our calendars and we celebrate the birth of Christ, we want to take time to be present with those we love. We also want to continually point to the One who came to earth so He could be fully present with us now and forever.
One of our favorite passages to read during the Advent season is from Isaiah 9. Isaiah prophesied at a time when the future of the people of God was unclear to them. He spoke of a coming child who would be a Wonderful Counselor, a Mighty God, an Eternal Father, a Prince of Peace. The people of God should anchor their hopes to this child, the One whose dominion will be vast and whose kingdom will be sustained with justice and righteousness.
We pray this Christmas season our hope will be in this child, the Son of God, too.
For a child will be born for us,
a son will be given to us,
and the government will be on His shoulders.
He will be named
Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God,
Eternal Father, Prince of Peace.
7 The dominion will be vast,
and its prosperity will never end.
He will reign on the throne of David
and over his kingdom,
to establish and sustain it
with justice and righteousness from now on and forever.
The zeal of the Lord of Hosts will accomplish this.
Isaiah 9:6-7
