After a year of continual changes at work, I have struggled with planting my feet in the ground and moving forward. Oh, the work has gotten done and ministry has continued, but the ground has not felt solid for quite a while.
Being a Boomer, I have experienced change more rapidly than my parents and grandparents, but not near as much as Gen X and Millennials have. So, I’m just not as used to it being so constant as the younger generation is.
I read recently a Lead Like Jesus devotional (September 17) that talked about “fluid circumstances” that “require leaders who are both discerning and responsive to the changes and people around them.” The writer relates this to Jesus knowing when to proceed with His direction and when to adjust to the newest developments.
Isaiah 30:21 tells us, “…and whenever you turn to the right or to the left, your ears will hear this command behind you: “This is the way. Walk in it.” (HCSB) What does that verse say to you? Oh, my, we HAVE to listen to His Holy Spirit continually, daily! We will not make it in this culture and time in history if we do not constantly ask God for guidance.
In James 1 we are told to ask for wisdom if we need it and He will give it generously. James 1:5 says, “Now if any of you lacks wisdom, he should ask God, who gives to all generously and without criticizing, and it will be given to him.” (HCSB)
Ask Him today for his wisdom to navigate the roiling waters of change all around us. Only then will we stay grounded and relevant in ministry with women.
How do you stay grounded amid changes in life and ministry?
