This is an excerpt from Dacey Triplett’s new book, Nobody Can Be You Better Than You.
We all have desires and dreams for our lives, and the enemy loves to use our desires and dreams to cause us to worry and question God more. In my life, there’s always been three things that I seem to worry about more than others:
- The worry of never being enough for love.
- The fear of being alone.
- The worry of what others think about me.
The devil loves to try his best to make me believe that all these worries and fears are true. He wants me to believe that I am right and that I will never be enough to receive love. He wants me to go down the trail of me trying to become someone I am not by changing myself in hopes that someone will one day love that version of “Dacey.”
Often, the enemy begins by attacking with thoughts: “If you were just skinnier, funnier, prettier, or taller, you’d finally be enough for that guy to like you back or for that group of girls to want to be your friend.” This then leads me to believe that I may end up alone with no husband or friends. When I start to believe this, I start comparing my life to everyone’s around me. When I start believing the lie that I will be alone, I start looking around and to me it seems like everyone else has their people by their side, except me. My sister found her person. My best friend has her person and is moving away, where she’ll meet all new friends. It seems like everyone’s lives that I care about are moving forward without me. I have all these dreams that I want to see come true and achievements I hope to one day achieve, but I hope that when those days come that I have people to share and celebrate those moments with. I hope it isn’t just me celebrating alone.
The devil loves to try and bring this thought into my head so he can try and turn a happy moment into a sad one. I walk into a new place, whether it’s a new job or grocery store, and automatically think, “What will everyone think of me?” Will they immediately stare or laugh under their breath? My thoughts are never, “Will they notice my smile or see how happy I am to be there?” My mind tends to want to think that everyone around me is staring at me because of my height, instead of thinking that they could be staring because they love my outfit or because my smile was contagious.
The devil loves to remind me that I am the different one in the room, and that’s why people stare and whisper. Once again, why do we worry? We know these are lies and fears that come from not trusting the One who made us. We know the devil often tries his best to get us to believe his lies, so why don’t we just stop believing him and believe our Father? The reality is that releasing our worries is hard, and it can be easy to want to hold on. But behind every lie the devil tells us, God is there waiting on us with the truth. The devil is the father of lies and loves to fill our head with lies like that God doesn’t love us (John 8:44,) but God tells us that He loved us so much that He sent His only Son to die for us (John 3:16.) When the devil tempts us to worry that we’ll always be alone, God reminds us that He will never leave nor forsake us (Hebrews 13:5-6,) and that He said in Genesis 2:18 that it is not good for man to be alone. When the devil wants us to be anxious about what everyone else is thinking about us, God tells us that we are His (1 John 3:1.) He fearfully and wonderfully made each of us exactly how we were meant to be (Psalm 139:14.)
I look back on this beautiful life that God has given me and realize that I have wasted so much of it worrying about things out of my control. My worry hasn’t made any of these things happen or not happen any slower or faster; it has only made me miss out on present moments by worrying about things that may never even happen in the future. God loves us so much that He wants us to lay our worries and burdens down at His feet so that we can be present and live in the day He gives us. God knows what tomorrow, the day after, and a year from now hold; we don’t. God sees the things we never will.

About Nobody Can Be You Better Than You

Have you ever looked in the mirror and wished something was different about you? Or wondered why God made you the way He did? Or maybe you just feel like you live in a world not made for you?
God never asked you to be anyone except the you He made you to be. God knew exactly what He was doing when He made you. You are fearfully & wonderfully made. You are made in His Image. You are the you He created you to be. He doesn’t make mistakes.
Throughout my story, I hope you see that we are all different in a beautiful way, and you realize that nobody can be you better than you. I want to be a friend who lets you in on all the good, bad, pretty, and ugly in hopes that you can find confidence in who God made you to be, just like I did.
