We at Lifeway Women take God’s Word very seriously. We believe it is true, living, and active. The Bible contains God’s very words to us so that we might know Him and love Him. Scripture convicts us and shows us the way to holiness and Christlikeness. We approach the Word with reverence in everything we do—Bible studies, training, and events.
And we also believe the Bible tells us to have fun. Proverbs 17:22 says, “A joyful heart is good medicine, but a broken spirit dries up the bones.” “Laughter is the best medicine” comes from God’s Word! From a book of wisdom, too. We would be wise to not only take God’s Word seriously, but to also not take ourselves too seriously.
If you’ve ever been to an event with us or to a Bible study taping, you know we love to laugh. Laughter and fun and joy are God’s gifts to us!
One thing that may surprise you is that our Bible study editors keep notes in their phones of jokes. Occasionally, we’ve been sent to the front of the room during a Bible study taping with the directive, “Tell some jokes. We need to get a few shots of the audience laughing.” So, we started keeping a list.
These jokes often fall in the category of “dad jokes,” but we’d like to rebrand those. Because dads aren’t the only cringey funny ones. Not all of us are moms, but maybe for the purposes of this blog post, we could call them “mom jokes.” They’re the kinds of jokes your kids will laugh at and then say, “Oh, mom.” If you don’t have kids, your friends will have a similar reaction (trust us).
Here’s a list of some of our favorite “mom jokes” right now:
