Planning an Advent event can quickly turn into a game of Tetris—trying to fit another event into an already packed schedule. Christmas is such a busy season of recitals, concerts, traveling, shopping, spending (too much), eating (too much), and trying to refocus on Jesus in the midst—is it worth it to add another item on the list?
But the women in your circle long to stop and savor the season. They don’t want Christmas to pass by without noticing it, and neither do you. We each want this season to be filled with heart-transforming worship, deep healing, spiritual growth, and to hear God’s voice.
Both the Prepare Him Room virtual event and the Behold the Savior Advent study for women are easy ways to celebrate—and there’s not just one way to use them! Just check out this list. (Hint: each of these ideas are low-key, require little planning, are super fun to attend, and quick to put together.)
1. Make it a cozy event! Wear your PJs, bring your Bibles, make some hot cocoa, and meet in small groups in homes to watch the digital event together.
2. Host a kickoff event with Prepare Him Room at your church and send women home with the Advent study.
3. Use the Behold the Savior Advent study on Sunday mornings for your Sunday School hour throughout the month of December.
4. Pair one week of the study with the digital event for a powerful, back-to-back Advent experience.
5. Advent brunch! Plan to meet once a week during December to eat brunch together and discuss what you’re learning in Behold the Savior. (Pro tip: food always brings people together!)
6. Families are busy, but why not host a couples study with Behold the Savior? (You can find the men’s version here!)
7. Pair a discussion about the Advent study with a craft. Come ready to dig into what God is showing you in the study and then stay to create one of the crafts in the book! (Psst—there’s an ornament craft on page 116 you don’t want to miss!)
8. Form a weekly midweek study with Behold the Savior and then celebrate the final session with a Prepare Him Room watch party!
As cliche as it sounds, celebrating Advent really does help us remember “the reason for the season.” Jesus. He’s the reason for the recitals, the concerts, the traveling, the gifts—He’s the whole, beautiful purpose.
