We’ve all been there—desiring to pause long enough to embrace the joy of Christmas with hopes that this holiday season might turn out differently. Somehow the most wonderful time of the year can quickly spiral into a heap of chaos, where stressful expectations and holiday hustle leave zero margin for peace on earth. This year, we have a fun Advent calendar taken from the Joy to the World Advent Bible study to help you create some space to savor the Christmas season.
You can invite others to join in on the fun! Gather your family and try new activities, tuck away for some morning moments reading Scripture alone, watch the video teaching while wrapping gifts, create traditions with your small group, or share insights with your favorite group chat. May this be the year where joy will radiate as you plan moments to welcome the arrival of Jesus into your heart and home.
How to Make Advent House Scripture Cards
Inspired by the whimsical art from the cover of this study, these house cut outs pair DIY holiday decor with Scripture memory. String them up as decorative garland for your mantle, carry them in your purse, tape them to your bathroom mirror—the possibilities are endless! However you choose to display them, these houses serve as a precious reminder for you to delight in God’s Word all day long. Here are tips for creating them, along with the memory verses that accompany each week of the Joy to the World Advent Bible study.
Supplies
- Colored paper
- Scissors
- Tape
- Markers
- Candy coins (optional)
Directions
- Cut out an envelope shape of your choosing with colored construction paper.
- Fold and tape or hot glue the envelopes, but leave the top open.
- Draw house detail with a permanent marker.
- Paint or color the houses.
