How can you weather the storms without wavering?
I want to have a faith that is without wavering. What do you think when you hear this? Strength maybe? Resilience? Me too. When I hear this, I think of a Christ-follower who is anchored and steady—immovable. Like you, friend, I’ve been through my share of storms. They’ve inevitably found their way to me, often knocking the wind out of me with their winds and waves—leaving me disoriented and disillusioned. What happens to our faith when we’re met with pain? How do we respond or react when we’re left breathless and speechless?
Hebrews 10:23 gives us an answer and an anchor for moments like this. Although we will experience trouble, God will comfort us in it because Christ has overcome the world, which means we’re overcomers with Him. (See John 16:33.)
The New Living Translation reads, “Let us hold tightly without wavering to the hope we affirm, for God can be trusted to keep his promise” (Heb. 10:23). When we anchor our faith in who Christ is and the promises of God, we see two things: One, Jesus never fails us, and two, our faith in Him grows stronger and deeper.
The promises of God serve as an anchor for us when nothing else does. They take our often self-made, flimsy faith and transform it into a faith without wavering—a faith that’s steadfast and anchored in Him, because then and only then do we know where our true hope and help come from. (See Ps. 121.) This is the hope we so deeply find in Jesus. When the storms of life come up against you, when you begin to feel overwhelmed and without hope, cling to His promise to never leave you nor forsake you, and even in the pain, let Jesus build in you a faith that’s without wavering.
