Have you ever wished you could sit down in a casual coffee shop with one of our authors and speakers and chat? We are so thankful for the amazing women of God we have the privilege of working with regularly. And while we can’t all gather in our favorite downtown coffee shop, we want to give you the opportunity to know them a little more personally.
Every so often we’re sharing a fresh “coffee chat” with a member of the Lifeway Women family to give you the opportunity to get to know her a little better.
This month, get to know Alexandra Hoover!
Tell us about your writing process. Any favorite pens, locales, teas to drink, and music to listen to?
My writing process is actually pretty simple. I just sit down at a dedicated time, pray beforehand, and dive right in. Now, weeks before I actually sit down to write, I’m praying, processing, and thinking about the message, content, and what God might have to say in it. My notes app on my phone is full of ideas, Bible verses that the Holy Spirit highlights when I’m reading, and more. Honestly, my notes app is the place where my thoughts are stored once I begin to hear from God on something. I also journal and write handwritten notes quite a bit throughout the day. And yes—I have a favorite pen I use! It’s the most non-aesthetic pen: my Schneider Xpress ballpoint green pen.
What is one of your favorite travel destinations? Is there somewhere you haven’t been that is on your wish list?
Oh, yes! I’m a warm-weather girl, and as a little girl, I loved visiting Aruba and Margarita, Venezuela. You can take me to any beach with clear waters, and I’d be content.
On my wish list, though? Greece and Italy!
What is the best advice you have ever received?
“Ask yourself this question: Do you really love God more than you love anything else? Think about this often.”
— My husband
As you worked on Without Wavering, what were some new things you learned along the way?
I always say that God has me live out any message I put out into the world while I write it or before I write it. And with this one, it was no different. I had to learn and even relearn what intimacy with God means. It was humbling to remember what many Christians have told me before—that we don’t stop getting to know God or grow in intimacy with Him. All that to say, my faith was challenged to grow closer to God with a greater conviction and desire to just be with Him apart from anything else.
