Hey there, friends! We are so excited to be hosting Priscilla Shirer’s Going Beyond Live event here in Kansas City, Missouri, this August. To help you prepare for your visit, here are some fun things that you, your family, and friends can do while you are in town that will help you get to know the city.
Fun Facts about Kansas City
Did you know that Kansas City sits on the midwestern edge of Kansas and is the largest city in the state of Missouri? It is the home of the 2023 NFL Superbowl champions, the Kansas City Chiefs. Rich in cultural diversity, Kansas City, also dubbed as the “heart of America,” is known for its jazz heritage and having the most fountains of any city in the world besides Rome. But it’s mainly known for, well, the steak and BBQ! Kansas City is home to many well-known colleges and universities, as well as several seminaries like Midwestern Baptist Theological Seminary.
Shopping in Kansas City
If shopping is your favorite pastime, we have some places for you!
Downtown Kansas City hosts great shopping districts like Zona Rosa, Park Place, Oak Park Mall, Legends Outlet, and Hawthorne Plaza. Kansas City also has a Power and Lights District made up of 8 street blocks, the River Market, and several farmers markets to visit.
Family Fun, Culture, and Enrichment in Kansas City
If this visit to Kansas City includes bringing your family, these are places you will definitely want to make time to visit. Here is a little roadmap of places to visit while you are in town.
Our first stop takes us to Science City where you will find over 300 interactive exhibits, 100,000 square feet of indoor and outdoor activities, and is named the top 25 science centers in the country. Wonderscope is a children’s museum packed with lots of adventure where your kids will find a museum that provides STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Math). Kaleidoscope by Hallmark, provides a free art-making space for kids 14 and under. I would be remiss if I didn’t remind you about the Kansas City Zoo, nestled on more than 200 acres and home to more than 1,700 animals including lions and tigers and bears, oh my!
We have more than 200 city parks to visit that include 12,000 plus acres of parkland, 158 miles of trails and bikeways, 29 lakes, athletic fields, tennis courts, playgrounds, and 5 public golf courses.

Don’t forget, you can catch the KC streetcar which will take you to Union Station/Crown Center, and the River Market for free! These are all places and stops your family will be sure to enjoy!
Food Stops
No visit to any city is complete without exploring all the food possibilities, and Kansas City is no different. Your arrival would not be complete without a stop in one of our most loved BBQ places along the way! We have the famous Chicken N Pickle, Q39, Joe’s Kansas City BBQ, Smokehouse BBQ, and Jack Stack BBQ. For those of you who prefer something other than BBQ, Lidia’s has the best pasta! Then there’s Rye Plaza, 801 Chophouse, and Capital Grille for some great steaks. And don’t miss the Urban Café, Harvey’s at Union Station, and Homegrown for a hearty breakfast full of dozens of options to choose from. For those with a sweet craving, you do not want to miss stopping by Andy’s, known for the very best custard there is!

Adrianna Anderson is a Bible teacher, speaker, writer, contributing author to Because of Hope: Reflections of Faith, Lifeway Women trainer, and Lifeway Women event specialist. She is a graduate of New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary and a former women’s ministry director who has also served on multiple advisory committees and the board of directors for Christian organizations. She has led and discipled women from multigenerational backgrounds in various capacities of women’s ministry for many years. Adrianna is passionate about seeing women be biblically literate, able to defend the reason for their faith, and focused on the Great Commission. God has used Adrianna’s unique life experiences to develop in her a deep heart for ministry to women. Widowed at the age of twenty-four, the Lord sent her to live as a missionary in Mexico to teach English in a Christian school and ESL classes to the local youth. Adrianna remarried in 2006. Adrianna and her husband, Gregory, are an interracial couple who teach the subject of race to churches from a biblical perspective while simultaneously promoting the biblical principles of love, forgiveness, unity, and reconciliation.
