With Christmas right around the corner, we’re baking all the sweets, singing all the songs, and sharing all the good cheer. But how do you spread the joy of the season while also keeping your distance (especially for loved ones and friends in high-risk populations)?
If you’re asking the same question right now, our team compiled a list of the ways we’re personally sharing contactless joy this holiday season. (P.S. Help us out by adding your own tips in the comment section below!)
- Set up a watch party by picking out your favorite movie and inviting your friends to stream along (check your streaming device or platform for details)! Pajamas and hot chocolate are optional (but are they really though?).
- Fill treat bags with candy, cookies, and other festive baked goods, and drop off in all your neighbors’ mailboxes. Worried about perishable items? Leave vibrant poinsettias or bundles of firewood on front porches.
- Organize a Zoom bake-off by settling on an annual favorite cookie recipe, and Zooming or FaceTiming a friend while baking together.
- Leave socially-distanced gift cards for your local essential workers, librarians, mail carriers, church staff, and the men and women who pick up your trash and recycling. (And the person who delivers your groceries!)
- Have your kids write letters to family, friends, or troops serving overseas during the holidays.
- Record your kiddos singing their favorite Christmas carols or telling of the Christmas story to forward on to family.
- Help people to focus on the goodness of God after such a difficult year by posting meaningful photos and captions to social media.
- This year, more than ever, Christmas cards will be so fun! Add a few names to your list you might not normally send to, in order to spread some extra cheer and “say hello” from a distance.
- Remember to record mailed gifts being opened to help capture the moment and involve the sender as a way of saying thank you.
