Once a month, you’re going to hear from our authors, from our team, or from a guest on how we study the Bible, what resources we use, and what questions we ask.
We’ve officially started a new year, and our team got together to talk about all of our favorite tools we use studying God’s Word. If you’re looking to start or grow your time in the Word, below are some things we love to use. Let us know your favorite Bible study tools in the comments section too!
-
- A Bible: This may seem obvious, but with many people using Bible apps and online Scripture (which we love!), we wanted to add a physical copy of the Word to the list. If you’re looking for a Bible, check out this post for a few of our favorite women’s Bibles!
- Bible Dry Highlighters: We’ve all tried to highlight in our Bibles just to have highlighters bleed through. These highlighters are some of our favorites for Bible study! (They come in several colors—yellow, pink, green, and blue.)
- Promise Pack Scripture Set: If you haven’t tried it, Scripture memory is an amazing way to dwell on God’s Word and hide it in your heart. Check out this blog post if you’re looking to start a habit of Scripture memory this year! We love these Scripture packs for help with Scripture memory.
- Simplified Give Me Jesus Journal: Having a journal to record what you’re learning as you study God’s Word can be a helpful tool to process Scripture and trace the themes you’re learning about God over time. We love the Simplified Give Me Jesus Journal, but you can also grab a simple notepad—whatever works best for you!
- Bible Study Book: If you’re looking to dive deeper into a particular topic or book of the Bible, a Bible study is a great place to start. Check out this post for our 10 newest studies! You can also find our larger catalog of available studies here.
- Instrumental or Worship Music: Music can make a great addition to setting your heart for time in God’s Word. You may even enjoy listening to instrumental music while reading Scripture. One of our favorite options for this is Austin Stone Worship’s The Reveille (Volumes 1, 2, and 3). We also love Psallos, who has several books of the Bible set to music.
- Apps/Websites There are several apps/websites that we love for enhancing our study of God’s Word! One is Biblehub.com, which has Greek or Hebrew spellings and definitions. We also love the IMB Pray app. Every day a different prayer request from missionaries on the field pops up for you to pray for, which can be a great addition to your time in prayer! The Bible Recap podcast can be a great companion to studying the Bible chronologically. Each day there is a short podcast episode with some commentary and thoughts on that day’s Scripture reading. Finally, we love WordSearch when we are looking for commentaries and resources to dive deeper into the context of what we’re studying in Scripture.
