In 2019, we’ll provide a monthly reading plan centered around our blog theme for 2019: This Is Discipleship. We wanted to go ahead and provide the March reading plan for those of you that like to print it out and have it ready for the first day of the month!
Each month, we’ll be exploring a different aspect of discipleship. In March, we’ll be reading and discussing spending time in prayer. We sometimes forget how crucial prayer is in discipleship. Prayer is one of the primary means through which we communicate with God. We praise Him, confess to Him, and ask of Him in prayer. We also listen in prayer, learning to discern His voice. In discipleship, we pray both for the disciple and the one discipling. We pray out loud, like Jesus did in the Gospels, teaching by example. In the way we speak to God, we encourage those around us to know Him more. We ask those we are discipling to pray out loud, too, so we can hear how God is working in their lives.
This month we’ll explore passages on prayer and also read through several of the psalms. The Book of Psalms shows us we can pray to God with boldness, bringing both our praise and our needs to Him. The psalms also provide a great starting point for learning to pray through Scripture, since so many of them are prayers. We encourage you this month to spend time in prayer—praying the psalms, praying for those you are discipling, or praying for opportunities to disciple. Pray for those who disciple you, too.
