Once a month, you’re going to hear from some of our authors or from our team on how we study the Bible, what resources we use, and what questions we ask. Submit your questions related to these topics by filling out the form here!
When January rolls around, we start making plans for everything. Working out, cleaning house, cooking new foods, traveling, organizing everything. We also make plans each year to dive into God’s Word. Maybe you’re the same way.
We want to make the Bible a priority for our year because we know how important it is to read, memorize, study, and know God’s Word. It helps us to pick a reading plan in order to stay on track and in Scripture throughout the year.
Here are a few plans we have used and loved:
Know His Word 2018 – This year on the Lifeway Women blog, we are reading through the Bible in sections. We won’t read every verse in the Bible, but we are focusing on key passages that show the big story of Scripture throughout the ten divisions of our Bibles. You are welcome to jump in and begin reading with us! We’re using the hashtag #KnowHisWord18 to share what we’re learning on Twitter and Instagram.
She Reads Truth – Available online, in your email, or through their app, She Reads Truth will bring you daily Scripture readings with a short reflection on the text every day. It’s a simple way to start your morning in God’s Word.
Chronological Reading Plans – Most Bible apps and websites have a chronological reading plan available. You can find one here and one here. These plans allow you to read the Bible in the order the events happened (to the best of scholars’ knowledge). Reading the Bible this way can lend new perspective to both familiar and unfamiliar passages.
Foundations – This 260-day Bible reading plan covers foundational Scriptures for every believer. Learn how to read the Bible intentionally, while studying key passages of the Bible in one year. There are versions available for kids and teens, too, so the whole family can study together!
Read Through the Bible in One Year – There are many plans like this, available with a quick Google search and in most Bible apps. In some plans, you’ll read an Old Testament passage and a New Testament passage each day, meaning you’ll read the New three times and the Old one time in the course of a year. Other plans have you reading straight through in the order of the books in the Bible. Either way, you will have read through the entire Bible in the course of 365 days. The M’Cheyene plan is a popular plan that includes instructions for family readings each day.
There are thousands of reading plans available, some covering the entirety of Scripture and others providing a few verses a day.
We recommend downloading the YouVersion app on your phone to help you keep track. YouVersion has hundreds of Bible translations and reading plans for you to choose from. Most of the plans are free, will help you keep track of what you read, and allow you to read with friends or family who are also on the app.
The point of a Bible reading plan is not to cross a finish line, but to spend time with God learning about Him and communing with Him. Whether that means you make it through Ezekiel and Jude or you spend the entire year in the Psalms does not matter. It matters that we read His Word and fall more deeply in love with our God.
Have you used a Bible reading plan in the past? What worked for you? What plan are you using this year?
