Each month, you’ll hear from one of us on what we’re reading and a little bit about the book. Enjoy!
With the weather starting to cool down, we’ve definitely been ready to cozy up with a blanket, make some hot coffee (or tea), and grab the next book on our to-read list. Need some ideas for your own next read? This month we’re giving you the inside scoop on the books our team is planning to read next!
Elizabeth Hyndman, Content Editor and Social Media Strategist, Lifeway Women
If You Only Knew by Jamie Ivey – This one isn’t out yet, so it’s in my imaginary stack right now. I love Jamie and feel like I know her through her podcast. I can’t wait to read more about her story.
The Lucky Few by Heather Avis – I saw Heather speak at Q Women a couple of years ago and follow her adorable family’s adventures on Instagram. I love their story and look forward to learning more about it through this book.
This Is Our Time by Trevin Wax – I’ve heard so much about this book and how great it is. I can’t wait to read it myself!
None Like Him by Jen Wilkin – I’ve had this book in my stack for a while. I love Jen Wilkin and her writing, so I know it will be well-written, but I’m really excited about the subject matter. Studying the attributes of God always helps me to refocus my attention on Him, leads me to study Scripture, and helps me grow in my affection for Him.
The Imperfect Disciple by Jared C. Wilson – I’ve heard so many endorsements for this book that I just want to read it for myself!
God’s Very Good Idea by Trillia Newbell – Yes, it’s a children’s book. So not exactly in my to-read pile, but definitely in my to-purchase pile. I love children’s books, and I love the message that God has created us all uniquely and wonderfully. I will be buying one of these for myself and copies for the kids in my life.
Emily Chadwell, Manager, Adult Ministry Magazines and Devotionals
365 Devotions for Living Joyfully by Stacy Edwards and Victoria York – I love starting a new devotional at the beginning of the year. When I saw 365 Days for Living Joyfully, I pre-ordered it immediately. I plan to start on January 1st. Even the cover is joyful!
Sacred Marriage by Gary Thomas – As a newlywed, one of the most discouraging responses I get to my honeymoon-phase-bliss is, “Oh, just wait! Talk to me in 3 years.” That’s why I want to read Gary Thomas’ book, Sacred Marriage, to get God’s perspective on marriage, a gift He ultimately He created for our happiness and our holiness.
Mickey Pitts, Marriage & Family Strategist
Mom Set Free by Jeannie Cunnion – I’m excited about this read because even though I don’t have children of my own, I can often get bombarded with my role as a stepmom and put a lot of pressure on myself to be perfect!
Love That Lasts by Jefferson and Alyssa Bethke – My husband and I have similar stories to the Bethke’s, and I think this would be a great read right now as we are in our second year of marriage!
Love Lives Here by Maria Goff – I love Bob Goff, and I am intrigued by the way he and his wife have lived their lives. I’m anxious to hear how they created a family culture of “love does.”
Sarah Doss, Content & Production Editor, Adult Ministry Short Term Studies
Come Let Us Adore Him by Paul David Tripp – Why I can’t wait to read it: I really love the way that Paul David Tripp is able to combine everyday, approachable language with spirit-filled insights. I’m hoping that this devotional will help me get into the Christmas spirit.
Is the Bible Good for Women? by Wendy Alsup – Why I can’t wait to read it: There are so many passages in the Bible that seem a bit tricky and even troubling with regards to the role of women. Wendy Alsup tackles some of these issues and helps us understand God’s grace and good plan for His daughters.
Kelly King, Women’s Ministry Specialist
Teaching that Transforms by Rick and Shera Melick – I’m actually currently reading this book for the second time in seminary because there is so much great information for anyone who teaches adults—whether it is a Sunday School class, small group or leading a women’s Bible study.
