On April 8, 2017, The Priscilla Shirer Simulcast will bring thousands of women together all across the globe to learn, fellowship, and worship. We are thrilled to share this story about how God is already using this event to bring together His Church.
Over the years, we’ve heard many stories from simulcast hosts who have shared how the experience impacted their church and community. But this year, we got wind of a special collaboration between two churches before the event and couldn’t wait to share their vision with you!
While working on her goals for 2017, women’s ministry leader Kathy Kunkel jotted down “Partner with Greater Mt. Zion Church for an Event” on her list. She didn’t just want to invite them to attend an event, she wanted to invite them to partner, meaning they would collaborate in planning, promotion, and prayer. Her vision was to use this event as a catalyst for something bigger in her community—unity.
Kathy’s church, Cleburne Bible, is a predominantly Caucasian church, and Greater Mt. Zion, the church she felt prompted to partner with, is a predominantly African American church. Given the racial tension we have seen in our country recently, her vision to partner these two churches together was timely.
“I wanted to see the women of Cleburne, Texas, come together to serve our community, no matter the race, no matter the denominational affiliation,” said Kathy.
Just one week after Kathy had the idea to partner with Greater Mt. Zion for an event, she received a postcard in the mail about hosting the Priscilla Shirer Simulcast.
“Wow! That was a quick answer, God!” Kathy said after receiving the postcard from Lifeway. “I went and told our former Women’s Ministry leader, and she loved it. Then I spoke with another lady, and she loved it. Then I met with my pastor and our ministry staff, and they all loved it, too!” With everyone on board, Kathy decided to approach Jean Pickett, the women’s ministry leader at Greater Mt. Zion Church, about partnering together for the simulcast.
“I thought it was a wonderful idea,” said Jean. “I think that this will help our women’s ministry, our younger ladies, and our community to strengthen our Christian bond to reach the lost. We are looking forward to the fellowship and collaboration with our friends at Cleburne Bible Church.”
Kathy, Jean, and a team of women from both churches will be collaborating on planning, promotion, and prayer for their community simulcast event on April 8, 2017.
“It’s pretty funny—we haven’t even begun planning this one, and we are already talking about the next one!” said Kathy. “The next time we do this, we want to invite even more churches on board to be a part of the team!”
We love the vision and heart behind Kathy and Jean’s partnership, and we can’t wait to see the way it impacts women in their community for Christ.
