In this episode of MARKED, Mary Margaret talks with Lauren Green McAfee about Bible engagement, the importance of community, and how mentoring others affects one’s faith. Lauren gives Mary Margaret a sneak peek at the upcoming Museum of the Bible and talks about how her work with Hobby Lobby has marked her faith in God.
{MARKED} is a podcast for women who are marked by a hunger for God’s Word, a longing to impact culture, and a desire to discover and live out God’s calling in their lives. Each week, Mary Margaret Collingsworth will interview someone who is marked with that hunger, longing, and desire, and encourage listeners to be marked, as well.
About Lauren Green McAfee:
As the granddaughter of founder David Green, Lauren Green McAfee has had a front row seat in watching the consistent, steady growth of America’s largest arts and crafts retailer, Hobby Lobby. She treasures the story and values of Hobby Lobby, and always wanted to work for this company that is much more than just a business to her. During her high school years, Lauren worked part time at the corporate office every summer. Her interest in business and the unique complexities that come from working in a family corporation drew her to the company. Lauren spent time working in different departments in order to gain experience of the various aspects of the company, including accounting, purchasing, and real estate, and working in the retail store layout and merchandising planning room. During her college years, she worked in the craft department of one of the retail stores managing inventory reorders and restocking items. After her undergraduate degree, Lauren worked for her father Steve Green as he founded Museum of the Bible. During her time at Museum of the Bible, she worked as Curator, Artifact Collection Manager, and Director of Community Engagement. Now, Lauren enjoys being back at Hobby Lobby working as Corporate Ambassador to promote company values, share company news, and encourage employees and customers.
Lauren has a BA in Letters (History, Literature, and Philosophy) with a minor in Religious Studies from the University of Oklahoma, and a MA in Pastoral Counseling from Liberty Baptist Theological Seminary. She and her husband, Michael, live in Oklahoma City. She loves coffee, books, mentorship, adoption, friends, and family. In her free time, you can often find her at the local coffee shop Cuppies and Joe with a cup of coffee, and a friend to share it with.
