Each month, you’ll hear from one of us on what we’re reading and a little bit about the book. Enjoy!
Megan Alexander knows who she is, and she’s not afraid to talk about it. Megan is best known as a national news correspondent on Inside Edition, and is a special correspondent for CBS’s Thursday Night Football. She’s a follower of Jesus Christ, and her faith is integrated into every area of her life. It’s not easy to be a believer in the public eye, but Megan has made wise decision after wise decision in her career that has given her strong legs to stand on. In her new book Faith in the Spotlight, Megan shares personal stories about what life is like when everyone is watching.
At the end of each chapter, Megan gives the reader some takeaways, and the book is filled with practical advice and wisdom. She has a way of immediately making you feel like you’re her friend as you read her story. Megan openly shares about what she’s learned from mentors near and far, and approaches mentoring from a very organic point of view. She’s a hard worker, and embraces any opportunity and open door that God puts in front of her. Megan is still learning what it looks like to balance being a career-driven woman, a wife, and a mom, and she gives practical advice to the readers as they pursue what God is calling them to do.
Here are some of my favorite quotes from Faith in the Spotlight:
“I interview people on the red carpet as part of my job, and I want to turn in excellent work. I don’t do those interviews to make friends, yet I don’t need to disappear altogether. I can still maintain who I am; I can still be God’s best version of myself. To be specific, I can be friendly and treat people with unwavering respect. I can make these business transactions as personable and authentic as possible. If you are genuine and strive to treat everyone with dignity, you will bring God glory.”
“It is pointless to compare myself to other women, especially in the entertainment world. I will always find someone skinnier or more beautiful than me. But I try to remember there is only one me. And there is only one you! Being different and unique is what’s beautiful.”
“Remembering who you are is not always easy in a business setting. I think Satan uses stress and enticing distractions to slowly pull us away from the Lord… That’s why I have to continually remind myself that I am a Christian and my primary desire is to please God, not myself.”
Whether you are in the process of chasing your dreams, pursuing a career, or praying that God would show you what’s next, I’m confident that you’ll walk away from reading Megan’s book encouraged and excited for the road ahead.
Megan will be joining us at this year’s Women’s Forum! We hope you’ll join us and almost 1,000 other women in November as we learn more about leadership and living out our faith wherever God has planted us.
