One of the words God gave me this year was expectant—that this year would be the best and point toward the future. So, why am I snowed in and getting bored?
I am so grateful for the ability to work remotely these days. In that way, technology is wonderful. But on the other hand, I’m ready for interaction with the rest of the world.
As busy leaders, what should we do with the time God gives us to stop and refocus? How can we also use the “down” time to be constructive?
- Consider what the extra time with the Lord could teach you. Read Scripture slowly and journal about what you are learning. Be grateful for the unhurried time with the Lord.
- Send texts or emails to those who are on your heart or those you have needed to connect with but have not had time to do so. Perhaps one of your ministry leaders needs an extra word of encouragement or some extra training. Use this time to do that.
- Look over the upcoming weeks of ministry and see what you could be working on to get ahead so that your return to “full speed” will not be so overwhelming. I have used this time to plan upcoming speaking engagements and training events. Google Drive makes staying in touch with others and working online together very efficient.
- Plan a home project that you just haven’t gotten around to yet. Clean out a closet or work on a special meal. Our families are part of our ministries, so don’t overlook opportunities to love on them in special ways during your time at home.
- Keep in mind that God knew this time would happen, so embrace it and see what God wants to teach you in the midst of it. My husband and I planned a weekend getaway for our 45th anniversary when the snow and ice hit. So, we stayed home—only getting out at the end of the weekend to at least eat dinner out to celebrate. We have loved having extra time together in the midst of a busy time of year.
If you can see the blessings in during the snow and ice, then you can relax into this season and see God’s work in and through each day.
Model this for your team and even let them know how you are handling these days so they too will watch God at work in those days at home.
