This is the season of Advent, the season in which we reflect on the birth of Christ and anticipate His return.
There is no better news.
The God who made us, the God we’ve run from, the God we’ve disappointed and sinned against—that God is coming for us. Our eternal and limitless God is coming to us, stepping into our mess, heart-set on our irrevocable rescue.
He’s coming.
That’s why we embrace Advent. The season leading to Christmas is often hurried, leaving little room for the pause that Advent brings. Beginning the fourth Sunday before Christmas, Advent lasts until Christmas Eve.
Amidst the cheer and joy, the parties and presents, there is an opportunity so often missed—an opportunity to ponder, to reposition our hearts toward waiting.
Perhaps the readings below—unshakable truths from God’s Word—will set your mind and heart on the necessity of Christ; the hope, repair, and rescue His coming brings to our broken world and messy lives.
Advent: It really is the most wonderful time of the year.
