I wouldn’t challenge you if I wasn’t already being challenged myself. You have probably read James 3:1-2, “Not many should become teachers, my brothers, knowing that we will receive a stricter judgment, for we all stumble in many ways. If anyone does not stumble in what he says, he is a mature man who is also able to control his whole body.” (HCSB) I wonder if this convicts you as it does me?
Not only do we need to lead and teach with God’s wisdom, but we just need to be careful about everything we say! We may teach with wisdom, but then speak contrary to the way Christ would as we relate to others throughout the day…co-workers, ministry leaders, our children, friends and strangers. God does hold leaders to a higher accountability, like it or not. Does that scare you?
Beth Moore mentioned in her message at a recent Living Proof Live event, “What God calls us to do ought to scare us to death so that we would have to rely on Him” (paraphrased). Those are sometimes the most stressful times but they can also be the sweetest when we see God work His power through our own weakness. And it ought to at least challenge us to be accountable to those we serve and lead.
I recently also came across this verse, “Now the goal of our instruction is love ⌊that comes⌋ from a pure heart, a good conscience, and a sincere faith.” 1 Timothy 1:5 (HCSB) Paul was instructing Timothy regarding teaching false doctrine. I decided I would quote this verse before I teach or lead women as a reminder of why God calls and allows me to teach. Overall the goal is love!
