Y’all. I have a confession to make. I’m a tree-hugger.
It’s true. Seeing someone hurl a fast food bag out of their car window or chuck a 50-page document into the trashcan hurts my heart.
The topic is as old as purple mountain majesties. We’ve been arguing over going green for what feels like forever, and strong supporters remain on both sides.
The environment piques political ears on the left and right, but I’m not interested in debating whether global warming is a real thing.
No matter which way you lean, that’s not the point. And it looks like more and more people see it this way. The results of a recent Lifeway survey of 1,000 protestant pastors showed that 63 percent of those churches have an active recycling program. Who knew?
To me, God most inspires us through His Word and His world. We wouldn’t rip out pages of the Bible, would we? And we aren’t worshipping that leather-bound book, either. What God has uniquely and wonderfully made is special. It’s something to be respected and cared for. Something to stand in awe of. Something to appreciate. And that goes all the way back to Adam.
“The Lord God took the man and put him in the Garden of Eden to work it and take care of it.” Genesis 2:15
I just love that. Adam worked in his yard just like I do. So, Happy Earth Day, ladies! I hope you’re inspired to plant a tree or take those two extra steps to the recycling bin or just sit quietly under spacious skies and thank the Lord for all He has given.
