Why We Love Going Beyond Live with Priscilla Shirer

Taught by Priscilla Shirer, Going Beyond Live helps you seek and experience Jesus. You’ll gain tools to study the Bible on your own, take part in meaningful worship led by Anthony Evans, pray together, and enjoy fellowship with women who are also seeking and finding Christ.

Reflecting on experiencing and working at many Going Beyond Live events, our team shared some of our favorite memories from the events. We are so thankful for each woman who attends, and we hope to see you this year!

This past fall in Athens, Georgia, I returned to a Going Beyond Live event after being away from Lifeway Women’s events for over a decade. I was so moved by the event. So many things had not changed—the heart of the event, the power of the biblical teaching by Priscilla, the care and intentionality of how Anthony led us into worship. My heart was so tender as I watched women write their deepest prayers out and hand them to us to be re-distributed to women to pray over them. I watched young women with fresh aches of the soul. But what moved me more than anything is to see the women with gray throughout their hair and beautiful wrinkles upon their face, hand over their prayers. I can only imagine that some of these prayers have been prayed for decades. The power of a woman’s constant prayer! The power of coming together with thousands of other women to study, worship and pray.

Priscilla Shirer at Going Beyond
I love the prayer times that happen at a Going Beyond Live event. I always feel emotional watching women respond to prayer needs that Priscilla voices and seeing other women pray for them. It feels unique to every city, and it is a beautiful thing to watch Priscilla be led by the Holy Spirit to pray for the needs of the women in the room. My favorite memory was in 2017 when we were in my hometown, Knoxville, Tennessee. I was working the event and praying for women when Priscilla voiced a need that was specific to my life. I went to pray for another woman beside me but looked up and saw my mom and best friend pointing at me and rushing over to pray for me. It was the sweetest moment to be the one to receive prayer. A few years later, I got to go back to Knoxville and be the Event Coordinator, once again keeping my eyes open for women who responded and feeling moved by the power of prayer experienced at Going Beyond Live.

While walking through an incredibly difficult season of grief and health concerns, I was able to attend our Going Beyond Live event in Athens, Georgia. While I may have been there to work and serve others, the Lord stopped me in my tracks during one of the prayer sessions. The presence of the Holy Spirit in the room prompted me to put Lifeway Women’s social media on pause and be present in what God was doing in that moment.   

Through Anthony’s thoughtful worship and Priscilla’s spiritually led prayer time, the Lord met me right where I was: in the midst of hurt, loss and confusion, and gave me the salve my soul truly needed. I’m crying writing this because I know God used Priscilla’s words to minister to me in a season that felt so hopeless. That event gave my heart the refreshment I so desperately needed in the midst of uncertainty and grief.
