In Psalm 127, we read that children are a heritage, a reward, from the Lord. And in Deuteronomy 6, we are charged to do everything we can to instill God’s truth into their lives. Yet every fall, we hand these precious treasures over to teachers who will influence their lives for six to eight hours a day, five days a week. Since most of us can’t attend classes with our kids, where does that leave us? How can we continue to do what we’ve been called to do?
Wouldn’t it be great if teachers would love our children like we love them—that they would see our kids as Jesus does? Unfortunately—and realistically—we can’t expect that. Not every teacher knows Jesus, and let’s face it—sometimes our kids aren’t always “lovable”! So, since we can’t be there, one of the best things you can do for your children while they’re at school is to pray for their teachers.
As you pray, consider praying these Scriptures over your child’s teacher. Insert the teacher’s name into each verse as you pray.
1. Pray that the teacher will have patience and compassion toward your child.
Therefore, as God’s chosen ones, holy and dearly loved, put on compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness, and patience, bearing with one another and forgiving one another if anyone has a grievance against another. Just as the Lord has forgiven you, so you are also to forgive.
Colossians 3:12-13
2. Pray that the teacher will not give up on doing a noble job that sometimes doesn’t pay well. In addition, pray that the Lord will encourage the teacher to keep trying even when something is difficult.
Let us not get tired of doing good, for we will reap at the proper time if we don’t give up.
Galatians 6:9
3. Pray that your child’s teacher and classroom will have peace.
May the LORD bless you and protect you; may the LORD make his face shine on you and be gracious to you; may the LORD look with favor on you and give you peace.
Numbers 6:24-26
4. Pray for the teacher’s physical and mental health.
Dear friend, I pray that you are prospering in every way and are in good health, just as your whole life is going well.
3 John 1:2
5. Pray for the safety of your child’s teacher and classroom.
You are my hiding place; you protect me from trouble. You surround me with joyful shouts of deliverance.
Psalm 32:7
6. Pray that the teacher would love your child as her own. That she would see your child through the eyes of Christ.
Whoever welcomes one little child such as this in my name welcomes me. And whoever welcomes me does not welcome me, but him who sent me.
Mark 9:37
7. Tell your child’s teacher that you appreciate all she does. Don’t you love it when someone comes up to you and says, “You’ve been on my heart so much. I just want you to know I have been praying for you.”?
As you build relationships with teachers through the year, ask how you can specifically pray for them. Your prayers will make a difference and might even be life-changing as they discover the faithfulness of God.
I give thanks to my God for every remembrance of you, always praying with joy for all of you in my every prayer.
Philippians 1:3-4
Continue praying daily over your children and their teachers and trust the Lord’s promise in Isaiah 54:13: “Then all your children will be taught by the LORD, their prosperity will be great.”
Blessings friends,
