This month we are celebrating our fathers and father-figures. We are so grateful for the relationship we can each have with our heavenly Father, and we want to ask Him to also bless our earthly fathers—encouraging them to look to His example of what a loving Father should be. So, we humbly pray on behalf of our fathers, asking God to give them wisdom and the desire to seek His truth in their lives. We also pause, remembering to regularly thank God for the fathers He chose for us. First Thessalonians 5:16-18 says, “Rejoice always, pray constantly, give thanks in everything; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.” As we celebrate our fathers, we want to intentionally pray for them and express our gratitude to God for their roles in our lives.
A prayer for our father’s wisdom and character
Lord, please give my father wisdom in decision-making. He needs your wisdom and discernment to lead and direct his family well in this broken world. Help him to be an example of a strong man of faith to the young men around him. Give him the wisdom, courage, and endurance he needs to faithfully disciple the next generation so that they will also long to show You love and honor in their lives. Help him to have a humble heart and give him the words to say so that others will see evidence of You. Encourage him to be a light for You at his work and in his home and give him the endurance he needs to stand firm in his faith. Please give my father a spirit of compassion like Yours, filling his heart with the love, strength, and peace that can only be found through You.
A prayer to seek truth
Heavenly Father, please help my dad stay rooted in Your Word—daily walking with You and trusting in Your truth. Create in him a desire to immerse himself in Your truth. I pray that as he studies Your Word, he will delight in You and his love for You will grow. Allow him to truly see Your love for him. Ignite in him a sincere desire to read Your Word and give him a dedicated heart to follow Your commands.
A prayer for us to regularly thank God for our father
Lord, thank You for my father. Even though he is imperfect—as I am—I am humbly grateful for his presence in my life and that You chose him to be my father. I ask You to bless him and give him grace when he falters, lifting him up and allowing him to learn from his mistakes so that he can better serve You. Help me to offer him the same forgiveness that you graciously extend to all your imperfect children. Fatherhood is not easy, and I am thankful for the many sacrifices he made for my family and me. I pray You will help me to respect and honor him, valuing the instruction and wisdom he gives me. Remind me to regularly express my gratitude for my father and the role he plays in my life.

Gun Lap by Robert Wolgemuth
You may think you’re too old to run fast, but you’re not too old to run well.
When the lead runner starts his final lap in a long-distance race, the starter fires his pistol for the second time. This signals the start of the gun lap—the last chance to leave it all out on the track.
“Gun Lap” is for men who are running their last lap. Or maybe younger men who are looking ahead to their gun lap, but want to live the rest of their lives with purpose and strength.
What will you be getting Dad this year?
