Do you ever wonder how you can spend more intentional time with God? Sometimes life is so busy that a quiet morning feels hard to find. In Scripture, Jesus showed us that it’s important to spend time talking to the Father, and He demonstrated that our prayer life can happen at any time of day. (Check out Matthew 14:23; Mark 1:35; Luke 6:12.)
Our Lifeway Women team told us some of their favorite ways to spend time with God, and we love all the unique and diverse answers they shared:
- “I like to write out passages of Scripture to help me focus on what I’m reading. Sometimes I’ll copy down one or two verses, but sometimes it will be an entire chapter. I also enjoy listening to Scripture. I find it helpful to engage with His Word in different ways throughout the day!”
—Tessa Morrell, Production Editor
- “I love to talk with the Lord when I’m driving in the car. Often, I’ll pray and then listen to worship music.”
—Ravin McKelvy, Lifeway Kids Marketing Writer
- “I like to go on walks or drives and listen to worship music.”
—Shannon Hoppe, Production and Community Coordinator
- “I journal my thoughts and prayers a lot. It’s cool to read my journals from years ago and see how God has answered my prayers.”
—Kayla Clark, Lifeway Women Designer
- “I listen to the passage from my daily reading plan while I’m driving. I read one psalm a day and use it to guide my prayer time and I play a worship playlist while I’m making breakfast and getting my family out the door for another busy day.”
—Kaitlin Redmond, Lifeway Women Designer
- “I use a guided journal with prompts and talk with God as I write. I also spend a few minutes at the beginning of the day calming my mind and focusing on the presence of God.”
—Heather Ross, Lifeway Women Event Marketing Specialist
- “My favorite way to start the day is sitting quiet with my coffee and my open Bible and journal.”
— Betsy Langmade, Lifeway Women Events Manager
- “I spend my time in the car either listening to worship music or praying out loud.”
—Savannah Ward, Lifeway Women Digital Events Coordinator
- “I’ve realized that I tend to think aloud throughout my day, so as a daily practice, I also try to talk to God throughout the day since He is always present, even if it’s random thoughts like, “Look at that squirrel!” reminding myself that He is always near.”
—Y Bonesteele, Content & Production Editor
- “I start my day before the sun comes up with a cup of coffee, snuggles from my dog, and that day of my Bible reading plan. Later, my kids and I spend our drive to school talking to God about the day ahead and praying for the people we love.“
—Laura Magness, Lifeway Women Content Editor
- “For me, spending time with God is like breathing. I usually start my day before the sun comes up in prayer—no light or sound—just quiet peace as I praise Him and pour out my heart for the day ahead. Then I turn on a light or open a curtain to read from Scripture and a devotional. I change this up between Bible reading plans and devotional materials. I might go through a book of the Bible or a Christian book of poetry to add to this devotional time. I keep my devotional time with God different from any Bible study that I am doing. I usually keep my Bible, devotional book, and journal open throughout the day. I will pause and read a verse or review what I read that morning as time allows. It helps me to reflect on God throughout the day, keeping my heart focused on the Lord.”
