Even though it’s the middle of the holiday season, if you lead women’s Bible studies, it’s not too soon to consider what you are planning to offer when the calendar rolls around to 2019. If you’re trying to decide what to offer, here are some helpful tips as you prepare.
1. Consider choosing the same study as Lifeway’s online Bible study. Lifeway Women will be offering Lisa Harper’s study on Job beginning January 10. While you may be studying together at your house or at your church, if someone misses a week, you can direct her to catch up by following along with the online Bible study. Plus, you won’t have to worry about losing that pesky DVD. Click here to sign up.
2. Consider the end before you start. For instance, do you want to finish a study before spring break or Easter? Calculate how many weeks you have, and pick a study that fits in that time period. For instance, if you have 10 weeks before the spring schedule gets hectic, consider Jen Wilkin’s new study that releases in January. It’s called God of Covenant and is a sequel to last year’s study, God of Creation. You don’t have to do the first one before offering the new study, so consider studying the Patriarchs of Genesis as you begin the new year. Click here to find our more about God of Covenant.
3. Consider the weather. If you live where winter weather can postpone or delay your study, allow plenty of weeks where you can catch up. Offer a book study where women can still read a chapter each week—even if they’re snowed in. A new book that will capture women’s attentions is Devotedly, which chronicles the personal letters and story of Jim and Elisabeth Elliot. Pre-purchase it here.
4. Purchase Bible study books now. If women know what you plan to offer in January, make in known by publicizing it now. They can ask for the study book as a Christmas gift or consider buying studies in bulk and making them available at your church. Work with your local Lifeway Christian Resources store to make sure they have plenty in stock. Don’t forget to purchase the leader kit that contains videos.
5. Prepare your heart over the holidays. If you’re leading the study, take advantage of the down time around the holidays and get a head start on completing the study before you lead it. You’ll be more prepared and ready to jump in as soon as January rolls around.
