It’s the holidays, which means many of you are in the thick of Christmas shopping. Whether you are considering a new Bible for yourself or purchasing one for a member of your family, the options can be overwhelming.
I still remember the first study Bible I received while I was a sophomore in college. A Christmas present I requested from my parents, it was the first translation I owned that wasn’t the King James Version (other than the Living Bible paraphrase I loved in high school). I soaked in the words of my New American Standard Bible along with the study notes at the bottom. I still have that Bible and used it for 15 years on a regular basis. It is filled with notes, scribbles, dates, and names from years of studying its words. Since then, I’ve acquired several more Bibles in different translations. I use all of them, and each are part of the personal journey of my spiritual growth.
Currently, I’m using a few different Bibles on a regular basis. All of them are the new Christian Standard Bible (CSB) translation, produced by Lifeway. And while I know I work for Lifeway and this may sound like a commercial, I’ve come to really love the readability and accuracy of this translation. I still use other translations, such as the English Standard Version (ESV), New International Version (NIV), and my beloved NASB, but the CSB is my go-to on a daily basis. In addition to the translation, there are several versions that are options you might consider.
The She Reads Truth Bible is a popular seller, and the poppy linen version is a personal favorite. The beauty of the artwork, the timelines, maps, and daily reading plans are helpful. While it isn’t my favorite to carry to church because of its size, it’s one of my go-to Bibles when I’m having my quiet time at home.
The CSB Study Bible for Women is another great option if you are a Bible student who wants a bit of commentary. Not only are there great study notes throughout the Bible, there are explanations and expanded information specifically geared toward women in Scripture. Time and time again, I pull out my study Bibles when I’m preparing to teach a lesson. They help me understand some words in the original language and give me historical and theological background.
If you’re considering a Bible that includes devotions, the new (in)courage Devotional Bible might be a good fit for you or someone you love. There are more than 300 devotions by 122 writers with 10 distinct thematic reading plans. I love that there is plenty of room at the bottom for your personal notes. I’m always looking for a Bible to mark up!
Finally, if you are a journaling fanatic, consider the CSB Notetaking Bible. Depending on when you are reading this, I just looked this one up on the Lifeway website and there is a great sale on this particular Bible that provides 1.75 inch notetaking space on each page for you to write down observations or record insights.
Being a leader means having the right leadership tools, which includes a variety of Bibles. Consider purchasing one this Christmas for yourself or a leader you love. There’s no better gift than giving God’s Word.
