A Note from Chris Adams: As an adoptive mom, I am SO grateful that our twins were born and that God gave them to us. I could rant about the issue of abortion and never do anything constructive about it. Today, Dawn Stephens, Women’s Minister at The Church at Brook Hills in Birmingham, Alabama gives us some powerful ways to impact what is happening every year across this country through prayer.
I had been aware for a few years that there are dedicated and intentional times of prayer at abortion clinics across our country and the world.
But, I didn’t realize what the simple invitation, by two women in our church, would do to reignite in my heart the burden and passion for unborn children across our country and world.
I didn’t realize the far reaching scope of taking an hour of my day to peacefully and humbly pray for the women in the clinic, the workers, and beyond…
…to pray for women contemplating a sexual relationship with a man that could result in an unplanned pregnancy and for men to exhibit self control and selflessness in relation to their sexuality
…to pray for our mothers and fathers to have courage and clarity to consistently communicate God’s truth to their children about His design for our bodies and our sexual relationships
…to pray that our adopted children will become living reminders of selfless women who chose well and carried their children to live a life that God ordained, not man
…to pray for our pastors for courage and conviction to preach God’s truth about the creation of His children and His plan for their lives
…to pray for ourselves to think rightly and accurately about our responsibility on this issue and how we can teach the next generation about a loving God who has a plan for all His children…the born and unborn
“For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.” —Jeremiah 29:11
I encourage you get out into “the highways and byways” of your communities and “show up” at local ministries and their events to:
- Learn about varied ministries to women in your area that need prayer and might have opportunities for the women from your church to serve there
- See with your own eyes what the least of these look like and hear about where God is moving in our midst
- Actively participate in peaceful avenues to speak and share God’s truth in these venues. I invite you to pray at home and as you go for God to move in your local ministries…and may God do His work through us in coming days.
