Update: Congratulations to the winner of this giveaway, Susan S.!
In his famous script Twelfth Night, William Shakespeare penned the now-famous phrase: “Some are born great, some achieve greatness, and some have greatness thrust upon them.”
Now, with all due respect to Shakespeare, I disagree. In fact, when teaching a lesson on leadership to his bickering disciples, Jesus once said, “whoever wishes to become great among you shall be your servant.”
Sister, I’ve got to tell you: neither “achieving servanthood” or “having servanthood thrust upon me” are at the top of my To Do list. Amidst all the cultural noise screaming, “it’s all about ME”, it’s hard to follow Jesus’ call to die to ourselves. To serve in order to become great. To be last so that we may become first.
It’s easy to read verses like these and apply them to people we see in typical leadership roles. Our boss, church staff, or politicians, perhaps. But friend, this concept applies to each and every one of us. Because I’ve got news for you: we’re all leaders.
Even if you don’t find yourself in charge of a ministry, overseeing employees at work, or with a fancy title on your resume, you’re a leader. Somebody is watching you, even if you’re not in a formal position of leadership above them. It may be your children, friends, coworkers, Bible study members, nieces, nephews, or siblings. You have influence. You make an impact. You are a leader.
As Christ followers, we’re to live out this calling by leading well. And the best way to do this is by learning how Jesus led during His earthly ministry. In his 6-session study, Jesus on Leadership, C. Gene Wilkes applies biblical principles of servant leadership to all areas of ministry. By following the pattern of Jesus’ ministry of training people to do kingdom work, Jesus on Leadership helps develop church members into servant leaders.
And today, we’re giving away a Jesus on Leadership Bible Study Book.
But wait, there’s more!
This November, women from all over the country will gather in Nashville for Women’s Forum, which offers the rare opportunity for leaders (that’s you!) of all ages to gather in one location to share ideas, strategies, information, and inspiration. At Forum, you can sit under the teaching of today’s top ministry leaders and authors (think: Lisa Harper, Karen Kingsbury, Jen Wilkin, and Rebekah Lyons), participate in breakouts led by experienced trainers, and learn from peers who, like you, are walking out their leadership calling in day-to-day life.
And to wish you the happiest of Fridays, we’re also giving away a ticket to this year’s Women’s Forum event!
That’s right, ladies. We have a DUO PRIZE PACKAGE on our hands. Talk about Fri-YAY.
Fill out the form below to enter to win 1 Women’s Forum Ticket + 1 Jesus on Leadership member book.
