We could pretend it isn’t the case, but the truth is we use our phones for everything. They’re one of the first things we look at in the morning (we even use them as our alarm clocks—how can we not look at them!) and they’re with us at all times. That makes them the perfect vehicle for staying in God’s Word.
Any time is a great time to start new habits, so we thought we’d list a few of our favorite apps that can encourage you to stay in the Word of God. Check them out and find your way around so you can keep God’s Word in hand, literally.
In no particular order, here are five apps we’re loving for keeping you in God’s Word.
YouVersion
Sometimes just called “Bible,” this is perhaps the most popular of Bible apps. YouVersion can be as simple or as complex as you want to go. We often use it for quick reference to Bible verses in meetings around the office. It has 1,797 versions of the Bible in 1,247 languages and counting. Along with the Bible, YouVersion also offers reading plans, places to take notes, video teachings, and several ways to interact with others as you study God’s Word together. There are also highlights and bookmark features great for when you need to find that verse you were reading just the other day in 1 Timothy, or was it 2 Timothy?
Olive Tree
Like many other Bible Apps, Olive Tree has multiple translations, commentaries, and study guides. We love the look of Olive Tree—it looks more like a physical book than an app. It also has a section of help videos, with articles on study guides, various versions of the Bible, and app helps.
She Reads Truth
This is one of our office favorites—you can find lock screen wallpaper from SRT on several of our phones. This Bible app is wonderful for daily devotionals. They have several reading plans available. Older plans are free; new plans are $1.99. The plans are anywhere from 5 to 28 days and focus on different books of the Bible or different topics (like hymns or hospitality, for example). There is also an in-app Bible available in a few translations, a notes feature, and bookmarks. The aforementioned lock screens are free and serve as a lovely reminder of what you’re studying through the app.
Blue Letter Bible
This Bible app is great for digging deep into a passage. Several of our authors use the Blue Letter Bible website when researching and we love how easy the app is to use. There are several translations of the Bible available, along reading plans. What we like in this app are the tools like commentaries, concordances, and dictionaries. You don’t have to know Hebrew or Greek to use the app, just tap a verse and several study options appear.
These are just five of the many, many Bible study apps designed to keep you in the Word of God. Let’s use our constant companions—our phones—to learn more about God and His Word.
