I just finished the book, Organic Mentoring by Sue Edwards and Barbara Neumann. The final chapter deals with both the positive and negative aspects of mentoring in the digital world. One thing I think we often deal with in the digital world is the appropriate use of social media. We also face the overuse and obsession with it.
As we all know, this is the world we live in and technology will not go away. It has great benefits in ministry. One thing that stood out to me in this book was an illustration of someone teaching a class of young adults. He had some great things to say until he criticized technology. At that point the students tuned him out and nothing else he said was heard. I wonder if those of us who are boomers or older do the same thing in ministry. How sad that we could miss the opportunity to convey important spiritual by starting with this type of criticism.
