This is part two in the social justice series that was a discussion topic at XChange, a leadership event of conversations with various generations of women’s ministry leaders. (Read part one.)
Today, we will focus on the reason for taking part in social justice — why should we get involved?
- We are called to be Jesus’ voice, feet, and hands (James 1:27, Isaiah 58, 61:1-3; Luke 4:18-19).
- God expects it.
- God wants the oppressed to know Him.
- It’s given as a command but expressed as compassion.
- Jesus cared for the distressed (woman caught in adultery, lame man, the blind).
- We are compelled by our love for God, so our love for people overflows from that.
- Our hearts for God and others compel us to make a difference
- If love Him, we will love the ones He loves.
- It’s need a great need in our world. People are hurting everywhere.
- It’s a command — love the least of these. Care for orphans and widows.
- Jesus lived it and if we are His followers we do as He leads.
- There should be justice for all people because the gospel is for all people.
- The spirit of the Lord is on us (Isaiah 61).
- God tells us to not just to be “good people,” but to put faith and works together to meet needs (James 2:14-17).
